The Korean Bell of Friendship in 1976 was a gift to the people of Los Angeles by the people of Korea to celebrate the bicentennial of the U.S. independence.

The Goddess of Liberty and a Korean Spirit images are engraved on the Bell.

1976년 미국 독립 200년을 기념하기위해 한국이 선물한 우정의 종은 20세기에 시작한 대한민국과 미국의 관계를 우리 역사에서 771년에 주조한 국립경주박물관에 있는 성덕대왕신종 (에밀레종) 을 모델로 17톤의 구리 및 주석, 금, 니켈, 납, 인 으로 만들었는데, 종에는 자유의 여신과 한국의 여신이 새겨져 있습니다.

태평양이 보이는 명당자리에 위치한 우정의 종각의 위치는, 한국에서 수입해오는 물건을 운반하는 선적들이 들어오는 로스엔젤레스 남쪽 롱비치 항구가 바라 보이는 산페드로에 있습니다.

8살 때부터 아버지 밑에서 배워 경상북도 문경에서 7대째 가업을 이어 도예가로서 살고 있는 대한민국 명장이자 지정 무형문화재 보유자 묵심도요(黙心陶窯) 이학천(李鶴天) 도공이‘우주’라는 이름의 백자 항아리 완성 작업을 하고 있다.

극한 직업 중 극한 노동인 ‘물질’을 하는 해녀들이 두릉박 위 망태에 담은 소라를 붙잡고 헤엄쳐 다가오는 배를 향해서 오고 있다. 해녀들은 허리에 22파운드(10kg)까지 뽕돌(납벨트 ‘봉돌’의 제주도 사투리)을 매달고 있어서 끊임없이 발길질을 해야 가라앉지 않는다.
